Multi-Dimensional Viewer (MDV) Services

The Multi-Dimensional Viewer (MDV) is part of the NDM Data Platform Small Research Facility, providing a comprehensive service for managing, exploring, and interrogating complex, heterogeneous multi-omics and biomedical datasets.

MDV is an open-source data visualisation and analysis platform designed to support collaborative research. Alongside the software, we offer expert services to help research teams manage, analyse, visualise, share, and publish data efficiently and in line with best practice.

Who This Service Is For​

Our services are available to:

  • University of Oxford researchers, including groups within the Nuffield Department of Medicine
  • External academic research groups seeking support for complex data integration and visualisation
  • External companies, including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and data-driven organisations, interested in bespoke data visualisation, analysis workflows, or platform development

NDM Data Platform Development and Implementation​

We provide development and implementation services to adapt MDV and the NDM Data Platform to specific project needs, including:

  • MDV software development to create new functionality tailored to individual research projects
  • Custom data loaders to support bespoke, non-standard, or emerging data types
  • Development of new visualisation components and charts for interactive exploration of complex datasets

Bespoke Pipeline Development and Customisation​

We design and implement custom data analysis pipelines to support end-to-end research workflows, including:

  • Tailored workflows for data import, processing, quality control, and integration
  • Connection of analysis outputs directly to MDV for interactive visualisation
  • Customisation to meet specific scientific, clinical, or operational requirements

Training and Capacity Building​

We provide training to help users make effective use of MDV and related tools, including:

  • Hands-on training sessions and workshops
  • Online webinars and demonstrations
  • Guidance ranging from introductory use of MDV to advanced analysis and visualisation techniques

Training can be tailored for individual research groups, collaborative projects, or mixed academic–industry audiences.

Data Management and Stewardship​

We offer expert support across the full research data lifecycle, including:

  • Advice on data stewardship and governance, metadata standards, and documentation
  • Support for compliance with funder and institutional policies, including data management plans
  • Assistance with data deposit and publication to institutional or public repositories
  • Guidance on data cleaning, anonymisation, ethics, and privacy, particularly for sensitive or personal data
  • Development of data lifecycle plans, ensuring data remain accessible, reusable, and appropriately archived
